Adventures of The Egg – Episode 28

The final voyage

Prologue

Dear gentle readers, as you know, The Princess and Obie-Bob Cannoli have been traveling the cosmos for many parsecs.  Katrina Casita (KC for short) has made the adventures most memorable, but things happen and changes in life are the norm.  Read now about their Last Voyage…….

Chapter 1 – The Last Voyage

“Well Princess, it’s almost time to leave our spaceport here in the Mississippi Galaxy and head to place our KC into the hands of the new Starship Commander, Captain Jay and his able bodied navigator, the Lady Angela” muttered Obie-Bob Cannoli, defender of The Truth and foe of The Dark Side.

“Yes, it is that time.  I hope we have not made a mistake and will not regret what we are doing” added Princess Pat.

“Stuff” that was removed from KC was loaded into the Tug, as many mods had been performed and the two Adventurers wanted to ensure the new Starship Commander had all the original “parts” to put back should they so desire.

The day of departure had finally arrived.  The Princess and Obie-Bob slowly maneuvered KC from their spaceport and headed toward the rising sun, tothe Florida Galaxy where the new owners were anxiously awaiting their arrival.  The distance was great, so a stop at a temporary overnight docking facility was required.  The following day, the two arrived at their destination and took great pleasure in ensuring that all was right with KC.

Chapter 2 – Orientation

Princess Pat authored an operating manual for the new owners, and when they arrived, The Princess and Obie-Bob went through the operation of all the onboard operating systems and the steps need for proper set-up and docking.  Captain Jay and the Lady Angela, although they had never owned a starship before, quickly grasped the fundamentals of starship operation.  Captain Jay and Obie-Bob ensured that “Eggsective Decision Squared” (or ED2) as KC had been rechristened, was ready to take flight on new adventures.  The Princess and the Lady Angela checked and rechecked the procedures for docking and departure.

Finally it was time to for The Princess and Obie Bob to depart.  Their new Egg of a different shape was ready for them at a dealership that sold Eggs of all shapes and sizes, not far away.

As Obie-Bob and The Princess departed, there was a heaviness in their hearts, but also excitement as they pondered the new adventures that awaited them.

“I hope they have as many great adventures with ED2 as we had when it was Katrina Casita” thought The Princess

Chapter 3 – A New Beginning

The following solar day, Obie-Bob and The Princess arrived at the dealership that sold Eggs of all shapes and sizes.  They inspected their new Egg of a different shape and set off for the Georgia Galaxy for their first night in “Ms Ellie” (short for Mississippi Element).  They had little difficulty in positioning Ms Ellie into the temporary docking facility and documented the event with these two photographic images:

The two opened an adult beverage to toast Ms Ellie.  They spent two solar days returning to their home spaceport where Obie-Bob maneuvered Ms Ellie into their spaceport.

“It’s much bigger than I remember” remarked Obie-Bob.

“Of course” thought The Princess with a smile on her face, “men always think it’s bigger than it really is.”

Obie-Bob remembers the wise words of Master Yoda.  “Size matters not.  Look at me.  Judge me by my size, do you?  Hmm?  Hmm.  And well you should not.  For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is.  Life creates it, makes it grow.  Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.  You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes.  Even between the land and the ship.”

So ends the Adventures of The Egg with Princess Pat and Obie-Bob Cannoli.  We hope you have enjoyed reading about our exploits with Katrina Casita as much as we have enjoyed writing about them.

Remember gentile readers: “Like it or not, time passes, and that’s why nothing will ever be the same it used to be.  Things are meant to change.”

Chapter 4 – A message from Captain Jay and the Lady Angela

“We’ve received a slow-speed, intergalactic transmission from Captain Jay and the Lady Angela” announced Obie-Bob.  “They have been out and about with ED2 and have sent a photographic image of their adventure” Obie-Bob remarked excitedly.

“Post it for all to see” Princess Pat exclaimed.

So here are the new Starship owners enjoying ED2:

And they all lived happily ever after!

May the Force be with you

Hill-A-Palooza Revisited

Chapter 1 – Snow Birds

“I’ve got the Hitch Itch” muttered Obie Bob Cannoli, Defender of The Truth and Foe of the Dark Side.  “Isn’t there somewhere we can go with Katrina Casita (or KC for short)?  This may be close to our last trip.  Remember we did tell our fellow travelers about our upcoming new Egg.”

“Sir Larry (The Zen Master of All Things Casita) spread the word that our great Egg was going to be available.  He located a new Starship Commander and Co-Pilot in the Florida Galaxy for her, Sir Jay and Lady Angela.  They were most anxious to have an Egg of their own and are very agreeable to adopting our KC.  Her new name would be ED2 and they have new and wonderful adventures planned.  It will be some time before our new Egg of a different shape is ready and we must leave our Katrina Casita.  So let’s enjoy her as much as we can – while we still can.”

“Don’t remind me Obie-Bob” Princess Pat replied with some apprehension.  She was thinking of all the good times the two had spent traveling the spaceways with their beloved KC.

“We could once again head to the Egg Gathering in the Hills of the Texas Nebula.  And we could visit with your Aunt and Uncle who are featherless Snow Birds from the cold and wintry Kansas Galaxy.  Then, we’d head to the Gathering at the Hill-A-Palooza assembly location.  Because of the great distances involved in the Texas Galaxy, it will require us to find temporary docking facilities along our way,” said Obie-Bob

Our adventurers retrieved KC from its storage facility, loaded up with plenty of “stuff” and began their voyage, heading toward Sol as it set on the western horizon.  They procured an adequate temporary spaceport and settled in for the evening hours.

“Obie-Bob, we really should consider finding a different temporary spaceport in this area.  While the facilities are very nice and the amenities are more than adequate, the local purveyors of tasty Texas cuisine that are within walking distance leave much to be desired,” noted Princess Pat.

As daylight appeared with Sol, the two were once again on track, utilizing their built-in Galactic Positioning Sensor (GPS) to find their way through the maze of small spaceports along the way.

They finally arrived at their destination, a small but very nice temporary docking facility in the Kingsland Nebula section of the Texas Galaxy where they had stayed before.  “It’s just as nice as I remember” The Princess remarked.  They quickly located The Princess’ Aunt and Uncle and Obie-Bob noted that they still had no feathers in spite of their stay in the Galaxy.  The Princess had a most enjoyable reunion with her Aunt and Uncle.  But soon, it was time to depart and continue on their adventure.

Chapter 2 – Return of the Hillbillies

It was only a few parsecs of travel time to the Gathering of The Eggs in the Johnson City Nebula.

“Brrrr!” Obie-Bob exclaimed!  “Did I make a wrong turn and wind up in Matagorda??  Why is it so cold?  Perhaps this is due to all the featherless Snow Bird Migration changing the climate patterns?”

The Princess and Obie-Bob found a fairly level temporary docking facility and soon Sir Jim and the Lady Carolyn backed their Egg in front of KC and all settled into the routine of the Gathering.

Soon questions from other Egg owners were being fired at Obie-Bob and The Princess….”What have you done!” they exclaimed.  “Why have you decided to abandon your beloved Katrina Casita?” they asked.

“It was just getting to be a little difficult for us” Obie-Bob advised.  One of us was always crawling over the other during the middle of the night.  Plus, we decided it was time to pamper ourselves just a bit.  Our trusty KC is going to a loving family who will attend Egg Gatherings in the Florida Galaxy.  We have made many friends coming to these Gathering of The Eggs.  We hope we will still be allowed to remain part of ‘The Family’ even though we will be Egg Less.”

“Of course” they replied.  “You will always be welcome – as long as you bring food and ideas?”

The Princess organized DIY craft classes and taught her fellow Casitans how to fabricate bracelets out of adult beverage container tabs. Gracious Lady Jean made mini-country doll kits for all to add their personal touches.

There was also a Pot Luck dinner, yummy breakfasts plus many social events to attend.  And there was still time to visit with friends and check out the latest mods.

The Princess and Obie-Bob were able to slip away with to enjoy the local cuisine and locally brewed adult beverages.

Soon it was time to return to their home spaceport.  Although the weather did not cooperate, a most enjoyable time was had.  The trip to their home spaceport was uneventful.

Chapter 3 – The Call

Upon their return, Obie Bob received an unexpected call from the Sales Representative of the Dealership that sold Eggs of all shapes and sizes.  “Your new fine looking Egg of a different shape has arrived!  When can you come to the Florida Galaxy to take it?”

The Princess and Obie-Bob almost went into nuclear melt-down.  Discussions on how to get Casita Katrina to her new Starship Commander and Co-Pilot were the main topic.  Time would be needed to acquaint them with the functions of all Eggs as well as KC’s little idiosyncrasies.  Our intrepid travelers also needed to coordinate the purchase and pick-up of their Egg of a different shape with the Dealership in the Tampa Nebula.  So much to do and so little time.

“Well Obie-Bob, it appears that our Adventures of The Egg is coming to a close soon.  What words of wisdom do you have now?”

I think of that little round-headed boy, when he said: “In the Book of Life, the answers aren’t in the back.”

Good Grief!” exclaimed The Princess.

Well, Boys and Girls, what will happen to Obie-Bob and The Princess?  Is this the “next to the last chapter” or the beginning of something new?

Stay tuned for the next (or is it perhaps the last?) Episode of Adventures of The Egg!

Adventures of The Egg – Episode 26

March 25, 2012

The Annual Kicking of the Tires

The new Solar Year had come and soon it was time to head to the Tampa Nebula for the Annual Kicking of the Tires.  Our two adventurers, The Princess Pat and Obie-Bob Cannoli, Defender of The Truth and Foe of The Dark Side were once again on their way to see what was new in the Cosmos in the way of Eggs of all shapes and sizes.  And they looked forward to the partaking of cheap adult beverages with Obie-Bob’s brother in the Leesburg Nebula.

After a very disappointing stay at the temporary docking facility they had utilized during prior visits, Obie-Bob was able to find a much nicer and more reasonably priced temporary docking facility just a few parsecs down the Spaceway.  The staff of the temporary docking facility went out of their way to make sure that The Princess and Obie-Bob were truly Happy Campers.

“Another mystery of life” Obie-Bob noted.   “The name of the temporary docking facility is Spanish Main, yet there are so many from Northern Universes and Galaxies here.  Oh well, we will just enjoy the hospitality provided.” And they did!

The two were able to meet with retired members of The Force and Wearers of the Mystic Yellow Shirts, Captain Al the Aortic Wonder, and his bride the Lady Maureen.  They all enjoyed reminiscing about past battles between The Force and The Dark Side.  As usual, cheap adult beverages were available and readily consumed.

The following day as Sol made its arrival, The Princess and Obie-Bob were ready to fight the massive crowds at the exposition area where Eggs of all shapes and sizes were on display.

Obie-Bob soon felt that familiar feeling….”Too much cheap adult beverage last night, Obie-Bob?” asked The Princess.

“No” remarked Obie-Bob, “I just felt a disturbance in The Force.”

The two arrived as the doors were opened and soon were viewing all the new models of Eggs.  Some were pretty square, some motorized, and some that could haul toys of all sizes.  Soon our two adventurers were at the display of a new Egg, known as The Element.

“I’ve read about these new Eggs, Princess.  They are of a most agreeable design.  While they are not completely fabricated of fiberglass as is our beloved Katrina Casita is (or KC for short), it does have a fiberglass front and rear.  And the sides and flooring are composed of “Green” materials, using no wood that might rot or warp.  Oh Princess, there is a walk-around bed and a real shower!”

“And it appears the dining area could easily accomodate others” remarked The Princess.

“Did you see the cooking facilities, Princess?  Why, they are so sleek and modern!  Surely tho, such an exquisitely crafted Egg of this design is out of our league.  I’m sure we would not have enough space credits for an Egg of this style.”

The two adventurers were gawking at the finely crafted Egg when a Sales Representative from a dealership that sold Eggs of all shapes and sizes approached them.

“Well, it really is a fine looking Egg of a different shape” admitted Obie-Bob, “but I’m sure that the number of space credits required to purchase such a fine Egg of this shape and style is out of our budget.”

“It depends on what ‘extra’ items you are interested in” advised the Sales Representative.  “Let me introduce you to the Factory Representative for an Egg of this shape and style.  He can answer any questions that you may have about it.”

Soon Obie-Bob, The Princess, and the Factory Representative were in discussion.  The Factory Representative gave The Princess a sheet with prices and asked, if they were serious, to put check marks by the ‘extra’ items they were interested in.  He would then figure out how many space credits it would take to purchase an Egg of this shape and style.

The Princess and Obie-Bob took the paper and nervously contemplated what they were doing.

“Our beloved KC!  What will become of her if we do this thing?” asked The Princess.

“We would have to find a new Starship Commander for KC.  Then we would have enough for an intial payment.  After that, we would have to make monthly space credit payments to the evil space credit lenders.”

“Let’s sleep on it, Princess, and as the dawn brings another day, we will have time to formulate a decision,” advised Obie-Bob.

The following morning, both The Princess and Obie-Bob knew what their decision would be.  They returned to fight the massive crowds at the exposition area where Eggs of all shapes and sizes were on display.  They returned to the Sales Representative from the dealership that sold Eggs of all shapes and sizes and once again met with the Factory Representative.  Offers were made, prices were changed, financing discussed, and additional options considered.

Finally, a price that was agreeable to the Factory Representative, The Princess and Obie-Bob was on the table.  With some hesitation, Obie-Bob said….”OK, we’ll accept the number of space credits you want for a new Egg of this shape and style, but we will attempt on our own to find a new Starship Commander for our KC”.  The Factory Representative agreed to all this and also promised them a delivery date.  He then directed them to the Financing Agent who represented the evil space credit lenders.  EZ terms were provided and low monthly payments for many solar years were now in store for the two travelers.

A dazed Obie-Bob and The Princess left the area and continued to wander, satisfied with their decision, yet somewhat melancholy.  They had experienced many good times in KC and traveled through many different Universes, Galaxies, and Nebula.  They also wondered if the owners of True Eggs would ostracize them or accept them as former Egg owners.

A few solar days later, the two departed and headed to yet another temporary docking facility where they relaxed for a bit.  Then it was off to visit Obie-Bob’s brother in the Leesburg Nebula for a few solar days and to again enjoy cheap adult beverages.

On the way home, they stopped and visited with the heroic Sir Fred and the lovely Lady Genie, also retired Wearers of the Mystic Yellow Shirts.  They were in the Florida Galaxy escaping the harsh winter conditions of their own Pennsylvania Galaxy.

Our two finally arrived home and were faced with an extraordinary decision – where would they find a suitable Starship Commander and Co-pilot for KC?

“Well, Princess, remember back to one of our first adventures, where I quoted the Great Yogi ‘If you come to a fork in the road, take it.’  I guess we’ve taken that fork in a new direction.”

Is the end in sight for our two illustrious travelers?  Will they be shunned by loyal followers of The True Egg?

Stay tuned for yet another episode of Adventures of The Egg as the plot thickens.

Adventures of The Egg – Episode 25

March 25, 2012

Back to Pineknot

“Well” muttered The Princess, “you’ve finally decided to push the dust away and catch up with our adventures.  You sure are taking your sweet time.”

“Yes” remarked Obie-Bob Cannoli, defender of The Force, “it has been a busy time for us but I will try and bring our loyal followers up to speed.”

After our two adventurers returned from their excursion to the frozen north Galaxy of Alaska, they were able to kick back a bit and catch up with routine mundane events.  The Dark Side had gone into hiding, but vigilance was always in the background, as The Dark Side could rear its ugly head at anytime.

Once again it was time to head to the Texas Galaxy once again and attend the Gathering of The Eggs known as Pineknot.  The Supreme Leaders made an eggzecutive decision to relocate the event to a more suitable location.  The new facility was equipped with wireless, slow-speed inter Galaxy internet connections, and cable TV which allowed the attendees to keep up with news from all quadrants of the universe.  While there were some who were disappointed in the way the Eggs were allotted temporary docking facilities, most were happy with the new location and the amenities.

Upon arrival, the two adventurers were directed to occupy the previously designated temporary docking facility.  They quickly set up Katrina Casita (or KC for short) and reported to the Supreme Leaders that they had arrived.

Soon they were involved with all the activities available….a demonstration of cooking utilizing ancient methods of meal preparation in round caldrons known simply as “Dutch Ovens.”

“Hmmm” thought The Princess, “a funny name for sure.  Why are they called ovens where there is no switch to turn them on? And no timer!  How do they even know if there is food in the caldrons?  A mystery in the making.”

The Princess was able to hold classes in T-Shirt braiding and Decorating Fun, plus the making of Christmas – Holiday decorations with a small replica of an Egg.  The classes were enjoyed by all who attended, both ladies and men!

There was also a presentation from one of our many Wounded Warriors.  Many of the Egg Gathering attendees were astonished at the trauma the young lady had endured.  Raffles were held to help support this most worthy cause, and by unanimous decision, the Pineknot Gathering of The Eggs adopted the Wounded Warriors and will continue to support them in future events.  A most worthy cause for those that have given so much.

Our two adventurers stayed an extra day to socialize with others that were not in a hurry to return to their permanent dwelling.  An informal evening get together was held and enjoyed by all who attended.

As Sol was rising in the east, The Princess and Obie-Bob departed with intentions of returning to their permanent dwelling in just one solar day.  They slipped through the Spaceways in the Houston Nebula without any difficulties and arrived well before Sol sank in the west.

“A fine adventure” remarked The Princess.  Where shall we travel to next?”

Obie-Bob thought for a few minutes and said. “It will soon be time for the annual “Kicking of the Tires” in the Tampa Nebula, Princess.  We usually go to see what is new in the realm of new Eggs of all sizes and description.  Plus we will visit with my brother in the Leesburg Nebula for a few days and enjoy his hospitality and cheap adult beverages.”

“Any words of wisdom, Obie-Bob?” asked The Princess?

“Well Princess, I’m not exactly sure why I remember the words of the great Longfellow.  As you know, he said “All things must change to something new, to something strange.”  Now, I’m not quite sure how that relates to us, but I have a feeling, something is going to change in our lives.

Stay tuned boys and girls, for the next exciting episode of Adventures of The Egg as The Princess and Obie-Bob return to the Tampa Nebula for the Annual Kicking of the Tires.

Adventures of The Egg – Episode 24

November 23, 2011

Chapter 1 – Getting there is half the fun!

“Well, Princess, as you may remember, we discussed returning to the frozen north Alaska Galaxy one more time.  Are you ready for an extended adventure?  I think we should do something different and utilize a unique Alaska Galaxy mode of transportation for part of our adventure” said Obie-Bob Canoli, defender of The Truth and foe of The Dark Side.

“What exactly do you have in mind? Is there a new transporter system we can use?” asked Princess Pat.

“A transporter system??  Well, no.  But we could utilize a system know as the Alaska Marine Highway System.”

“That’s a very peculiar name for a travel system” The Princess noted.  “Is it operated by Alaskan Marines or what?”

“Peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God, Princess, and I doubt the Marines have any connection to it.  I think it is something we should try.  We could travel across the North America Continent and into the Canadian Universe, with stops along the way, including a stop in Vulcan.”

“Is that possible?” exclaimed The Princess as “Live long and prosper” was being beamed to her.

“Princess, once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.  Yes, we shall visit Vulcan.  And I will make arrangements for us, our Tug, and our lovely sleek Egg, Katrina Casita (or KC for short) to utilize the Alaska Ferry, as it is commonly called.  I will also make additional arrangements for the finest accommodations available for that portion of our adventure.”

As promised, all the necessary arrangements were made by Obie-Bob.  As the time to depart grew closer, additional stops were discussed and planned.  Well in advance of their departure, KC was brought from its storage pod and it, along with the Tug, were filled to capacity with “stuff” that would be needed.  All new black circular adhesion discs were installed and a spare was lashed to the outer skin of the Tug.  All was ready for departure!

“What should our first stop be?” asked Obie.

“I’d like to visit my sister who continues to reside in the Tennessee Nebula, as I have not had the opportunity to see her in almost one solar year.  After that, I don’t know.  What are your thoughts, Obie-Bob?” The Princess replied.

“I have many places in mind, why don’t we just get out onto the spaceways and go.  We have to be at the departure point of Prince Rupert in the British Columbia sector of the Canada Universe on a specified date to obtain passage upon the water as planned, but other than that, we have no time constraints.”

So without further adieu, the two Adventurers were off.  A short, but very pleasant reunion with the Princess’ sister Michele and mate Terry in the Tennessee Nebula was achieved.

From there they crossed the Arkansas Galaxy and into the Missouri Galaxy where they stopped and viewed artifacts from a mode of transportation used many eons ago, those from the Steamboat Arabia  (www.1856.com)  in the Kansas City Quadrant.

Optical reading devices

Pistol and powder flasks

There were many displays with artifacts which had been recovered from the vessel which sank in 1856. Jars of pickles found in her hold were still crisp!

After touring the Museum, the two continued toward their destination.  They made their way to a temporary docking facility for the evening but were momentarily halted by floodwaters escaping the banks and flooding the spaceway!

However, they were able to navigate through the rapidly overflowing waters and arrived at the temporary docking facility just as Sol was setting in the west.

The next stop was at the famous Corn Palace in the Mitchell Nebula. While this was a repeat visit, the two enjoyed the free tour.

That night they dined on circular carbohydrate discs covered with seared bits of some unknown animal flesh, vegetables, and a gooey tomato based paste. It was yummy!

The two continued their travels, stopping in the Wall Nebula, home to the famous Wall Drug.  They made a quick tour of the famous apothecary but did not make any major purchase.  They did manage to obtain a sticker to adhere to some flat surface at a later date.

From Wall, they headed into the dreaded Badlands, which were actually very good!

They had a very enjoyable visit and saw great herds of huge four-legged, shaggy furred, large horned creatures.

Bison

Taking a short rest

Their next stop was at a mountain that was carved into to portray four great American Presidents.  But they had to travel through a small mountain just to get there.

Obie-Bob and The Princess were able to have a picture made of them at the entrance to Mt. Rushmore.

Obie-Bob and The Princess

Their travels then took them to a famous battleground between the US Calvary and the fierce Sioux and Cheyenne warriors at a location known as The Little Big Horn.

There are not enough Indians in the world to defeat the Seventh Cavalry.

From there they carried on, spending the night in Reed Point Nebula in the Montana Galaxy.  As they were walking through town they noticed a wedding in progress!  The reception was being held at the local watering hole and spilled over to a vacant lot where a sound truck, complete with a portable dance floor was set up.  Obie-Bob wanted to join in the celebration, but The Princess told him he was not dressed properly for the event as he had tennis shoes on and not cowboy boots!

The next stop was in Great Falls, also in the Montana Galaxy.  They stayed for two nights and spent the time dining out, cleaning, and servicing The Tug at the local Toyota dealer who advised all was well.

Then it was time to continue on…they gained access to the spaceway and soon they approached the boundary at the Canada Universe, eh!  They eased into the queue along with many other space travelers.  After a very brief stop where they had to show their travel papers allowing them to enter a new Universe, they were allowed to proceed.

“Whew!” thought Obie-Bob, “security is certainly tough!  I’m sure it’s because of the Zeronian migration of 1998, but it’s a very difficult job to monitor and police aliens attempting to infiltrate into their sector.”

Princess Pat and Obie-Bob have completed the first portion of their adventure.  They will continue their travels in next chapter.

Chapter 2 – The Canadian Universe

After arriving in the Canadian Universe they made their way to a most peculiar place, known as “HeadSmashed In Buffalo Jump” where the First Nations people would herd the shaggy creatures off a cliff since they had no other weapons to hunt with.  The two spent the remainder of the day viewing the displays, viewing a recreation,  and wandering through the exhibit.

“Is Vulcan next? Is it, is it?” asked The Princess excitedly.  “I can’t wait!”

“Yes Princess, that’s our next stop.  We will have plenty of time to see all the sights that Vulcan has to offer.”

Our Space Wanderers arrived in Vulcan and were able to dock their craft close to the Star Ship Enterprise.  They had a very enjoyable and informative visit with the representatives of The Federation.

The Princess especially enjoyed looking at the numerous artifacts that were available for purchase.

Vulcon Information Center

“I’ll tell you one thing Princess; you never cease to amaze me.”  “Nor I, myself” added The Princess.

The next stop for the two was at the beginning of the scenic Icefields Parkway.  As they continued their travels, they noticed an appreciable decrease in the amount of warmth emitted from Sol.  Soon frozen hydrogen & oxygen particles were all around them.

They had hoped to travel upon the frozen icefields in an enclosed “snowcat” but the weather was just too horrible!  So they continued on, but as they traveled, the weather improved slightly and they were rewarded with views of some of the local inhabitants.

After just a short while, mists obliterated the warmth from Sol and particles once again surrounded our two travelers.

“Brrr!” thought Obie-Bob, “why did I leave my spaceport in the south to roam around in the cold?”

Upon arriving at their temporary docking facility for the night, they activated an auxiliary heating device to insure their comfort through the period of darkness.  They retired to the sleep chamber portion of The Egg and enjoyed a relaxing (and warm) night.

The next morning, the mists had gone away and they continued their travels across the British Columbia Galaxy stopping in the very small Smithers Nebula where they obtained a temporary docking facility in a Municipal Park.  Although the amenities were a bit scarce, it was a nice place to stop.

The two were approaching the next leg of their adventure, arriving in the Prince Rupert Nebula.  They obtained a small temporary docking facility in the Port Edward Nebula.  “Ugh!” Obie-Bob thought.  “I wonder who gave this facility such a glowing recommendation.  I will post a review of this facility on the information highway to warn others who may be considering utilizing this facility.  I would have gladly paid additional space credits for the facility in the Prince Rupert Nebula.  But we’re here and we only intend to be here for one full solar day and two periods of darkness, we’ll make do.”

The two spent time seeing the sights of the Prince Rupert Nebula before starting on the next leg of their adventure….read on!

Chapter 3 – North to the Alaska Galaxy!

“Is it time yet?  The Princess asked.  “Time for what, Princess?” replied Obie-Bob.  “Is it time to get in line for the next portion of our adventure?  You know, that Marine Highway thingy.  I’m ready to GO!”

“Well, we might as well go down and report to the local authorities.  It may take a while to insure our travel papers are in order.  I’m sure there will be other starships awaiting transport there too.”  So off they went and found where they needed to check in.  But before that, two Marine Highway officials measured The Tug and KC to be sure it was the length Obie-Bob advised them was correct.  Which, of course, it was!

They presented their travel documents and all was in order for their imminent departure.  The officials directed them to queue up with other adventurous space travelers.

Travel documents had to be shown again to officials from the USA Universe, as the next stop would be in the Alaska Galaxy as they were exiting the Canadian Universe.

The Ferry that was to take our travelers appeared and their excitement grew.

Off loading

Before they knew it, it was finally time for them to maneuver The Tug and KC onboard.  Unfortunately, both of the Travelers were required to stay together, so there is no photographic documentation of them loading onto the Ferry.  After securing The Tug and KC (propane off!) the two made their way to obtain some adult beverages in the lounge.  There they met other space travelers and they enjoyed the company.  The voyage was short, only about 5 parsecs, but their arrival was during the period of darkness.

Rather than seeking a temporary docking facility, when they arrived in the Ketchikan Nebula, they sought out the local Wal-Mart.  They spent the night, along with numerous other space travelers, in the flat, hard-surfaced area adjacent to the Wal-Mart.  As Sol made its appearance, Obie-Bob wandered into the Wal-Mart and was able to obtain a high energy, caffeinated beverage.

The Princess was soon awake and they departed to find where Obie-Bob had made reservations for their stay.  They quickly settled in and found to their delight, that not only did they have a Wi-Fi connection, but cable TV also!

The Princess and Obie-Bob had ample time to wander through the Ketchikan Nebula, taking in all the sights.

They found a replica of ancient inhabitants that were adorned with mystic carved figures

Clan House

They observed strange flying creatures fighting for the remnants of creatures from the deep dark depths.

“I wonder what those creatures from the deep dark depths looked like?” remarked The Princess.  “It doesn’t look like there is a lot of meat on those bones.”

“While you were relaxing in the sleep chamber one afternoon, I observed what is known as “a catch” of the creatures and I have photographic proof of their existence, Princess” offered Obie Bob.  “I’m also told that if prepared correctly, it is a dish you would enjoy too!”

They wandered into the center of town and noticed some very strangely built dwellings.

“I’ve been told that young (and sometimes not quite so young) ladies of negotiable affection would live in the houses” advised Obie-Bob.

“Just stay next to me, Obie-Bob, no wandering off for you!” The Princess exclaimed.

Again it was time for the two to move to their next destination in the Sitka Nebula.  Since it was an extended voyage of one full solar day, Obie-Bob had made arrangements for a sleep chamber on the Ferry.

“Why can’t we sleep in KC??” asked The Princess.  “Coastal Guardian rules, Princess” advised Obie-Bob.  “I have made arrangements for a sleep chamber with full facilities, so we will be very comfortable during the voyage.”

“Well Obie-Bob, as you know, there are some, in today’s economy, that may not be able to afford a private sleep chamber.  Where can they rest?” asked The Princess.

“Well, Princess, there are reclining chairs in an area that is kept quiet for travelers.  Plus, travelers are allowed to erect special sleep chambers on the ferry.

There were two stops while in transit to Sitka, one in Petersburg Nebula and one in Kake Nebula.  Passengers did embark and disembark and the process was quick and efficient.

During the transit, The Princess and Obie-Bob were able to investigate the Ferry.  Another traveler offered to make a picture of the two travelers, so here are Obie-Bob and The Princess enjoying the warmth of Sol.

“What’s that!” exclaimed The Princess.  “It looks like a Monster!”  “Ah, Princess, it is a denizen of the deepest darkest depths.  It is known as a whale in this Galaxy.”

One again, the two travelers were arriving at their destination during a period of darkness.  Fortunately, they were the first spacecraft to be allowed to leave, and they had but a short distance to go.  They arrived at their destination and then maneuvered KC into a temporary docking facility.  Soon, other spacecraft began to arrive and The Princess and Obie-Bob assisted, as best they could, other space travelers.  As soon as they could, they retreated to the sleep chamber portion of KC and snuggled in for the night.

There were many sights to see in the Sitka Nebula, and one of those was a favorite of Obie-Bob.  They were able to purchase consumables at a local purveyor and enjoyed a cold adult beverage as they dined.

The New Archangel DancersThey also attended a cultural event, a group demonstrating dances of the early settlers of the area and took in many sights regardless of the continued presence of hydrogen and oxygen particles in the atmosphere.
They visited a historical park and the residence of early settlers of this space quadrant.

Russian Bishop's House

All too soon, it was time to depart for their next destination, the Juneau Nebula.

“Are we going to have a private sleep chamber on this segment of our trip?” asked The Princess

“No Princess, I’ve arranged for us to travel on a high-speed inter-Nebula ferry.  What would normally take a full solar day to travel, we will accomplish in just under 5 parsecs.” Obie-Bob replied, with just a bit of pride in his voice.

The passage was very fast and the two found themselves in the Juneau Nebula, the capital of the Alaska Galaxy.  This was an especially rewarding stop, as the two lived here when Obie-Bob was a member of the Coastal Guardians.

They were able to visit many of the places from their youth, including the first earth dwelling they purchased.  “It seems a bit run down” observed The Princess.  “Yes” Obie-Bob agreed,” but the environment here is very harsh.  I’m sure they are trying hard to maintain their dwelling.

“We will have the opportunity to visit with a member of the Coastal Guardians that I served with here in the Juneau Nebula” advised Obie-Bob.  “Do you remember Sir Bill Paulick and his Bride Miss Karen?”  “Of course I do!” The Princess remarked.  “It will be good to see them after being away for so many solar years.”  They had a wonderful reunion and spent time together consuming mass quantities of seared animal flesh and adult beverages.  They also especially enjoyed observing the celebration commemorating the Independence of the USA Universe.

They visited the Mendenhall Glacier and were sad to note that the glacier had diminished quite a bit since they left the Juneau Nebula in Stardate 1979.

Their time in the Juneau Nebula went by very fast.  They found themselves waiting to board another Alaska Ferry, bound for the Haines Nebula.  Due to scheduling conflicts, there was a short wait until the designated Ferry was able to accept travelers.

Before they knew it, the two travelers were now on their way to the Haines Nebula. No sleep chamber was necessary for this trip.

Arriving just as Sol was setting, they headed to a temporary docking facility they used when employed by the Mystic Yellow Shirts.

The following day, they had plenty of time to visit many of the local attractions, including a museum dedicated to the preservation of hammers

A fish packing plant offered an educational tour of how creatures from the deep dark depths were processed and made ready for consumption.

“Whew!” thought Obie-Bob.  “All this is really nice, but I would sure enjoy sampling some of the local adult beverages.  I think I may know where to find some.”

No visit to the Haines Nebula would be complete without a visit to The American Bald Eagle Foundation.

After the Two Travelers finished visiting the Haines Nebula, they continued their adventure and made their way toward the Homer Nebula upon the spaceways.  But to get there, they had to travel through a portion of the Canada Galaxy.  Once again, they had to stop and produce their travel documents at a very small entry portal.  As before, the authorities allowed them to pass without further inspection.

Canadian Universe Border Crossing outside of the Haines Nebula

It was a lonely trip and very few space travelers were out.

Soon they came to a fork in the spaceway…

“What should we do?” asked The Princess.  “I think we should do as the great Great Yogi said, “If you come to a fork in the spaceway, take it.” advised Obie-Bob

Since the distance was so great to the Homer Nebula, a number of temporary docking facilities were utilized during the trip.  Quite a few of the ancient spaceway construction craft and relics from earlier days were observed along the way.

Eventually, they had to enter back into the USA Universe.

As it was approaching the time to enjoy consumables, they stopped at a well-known eatery known as Fast Eddy’s in the Tok (rhymes with “broke”) Nebula and enjoyed a platter of deep fat fried fungi.  Yummy!

Deep Fat Fried Fungi....YUM!

From there, the two made a quick departure from the main spaceway to another spaceway which took them to the Anchorage Nebula.  There they spent time removing dirt particles from their space uniforms and performing a thorough cleaning of KC, both the interior and exterior.

After a two solar night stop, they traveled to the Homer Nebula where they found a temporary docking facility close to the Alaska Ferry.

They were able to locate an extraordinary purveyor of carbohydrate discs, known only as Finn’s.

KC and The Tug were secured and they walked to the Marine Highway docking facility as it was very close by.

“You did secure the entrance portal to KC before we left didn’t you, Obie-Bob?” asked The Princess.

“Of course” replied Obie-Bob, “the photographic image you see was captured prior to our departure.  Never fear, Princess” replied Obie-Bob.

Since the passage to the Kodiak Nebula took place during the period of darkness, a sleep chamber was once again obtained by Obie-Bob.

Arriving in Kodiak

The two arrived in the Kodiak Nebula where they were met by a close shipmate of Obie-Bob from his days when he served with the Coastal Guardians, Mr. A. Pismo Clam aka Dick Ross.  He took The Princess and Obie-Bob to their land based temporary sleep chamber and then for a tour of the area.  Much had changed since The Princess and Obie-Bob left in Stardate 1985.  Later that evening, Miss Lynda, the Child Bride of Mr. Clam, joined the group for an evening of dining and frivolous behavior.

They also met with another couple, Dave and his lovely bride, Miss Jeanne.  Dave was a tremendous help to Obie-Bob during his time onboard an ancient Coast Guard vessel, plying the treacherous waters of the Gulf of Alaska.

The Princess and Obie-Bob had a wonderful visit with ample opportunity to visit local attractions, museums, and points of interest including the Baranof Museum and the St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.

Baranov Museum in Kodiak

St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church

Their 3 solar day visit was coming to an end.  However, the forces of The Dark Side attempted to capture The Princess and Obie-Bob and hold them captive in the Kodiak Nebula.  The Dark Side had caused damage to the quantum flux capacitors on the vessel scheduled to return them to the Homer Nebula and to the comfort of KC.  Diligent technicians were able to effect repairs, but their departure was now delayed many parsecs.  Again, Obie-Bob had made arrangements for a sleep chamber and as soon as the two were allowed onboard, they quickly retired to their temporary sleep chamber and were soon sound asleep.

Obie-Bob awoke the next morning to the gentle swaying as the vessel made the crossing.  It brought back memories of his service upon the waters….Obie-Bob sat and thought “being onboard a ship is like being in jail, but with the added chance of drowning.”  Soon The Princess awoke and joined Obie-Bob as the vessel approached the docking facility in the Homer Nebula.

They were able to observe the area where they left KC and The Tug and soon found themselves once again with their feet firmly planted on Terra Firma.

Homer Spit Campground as seen from the Alaska Ferry

They remained in the Homer Nebula an additional period of darkness where they once again dined on the carbohydrate discs at Finn’s.  While visiting the local area, they were able to view the great winged creatures that abound in the area and even observe the birthing area of them!

“Well Princess, only one more shipmate to visit, that of the legendary sea Captain J. Scott Merrill and his Bride Sharon.  You know, as a bright, shiny new First Lieutenant, The Captain took great pains to insure my success while a member of the Coastal Guardians.  We shall dine with them and enjoy some adult beverages, and tell stories of the sea” Obie-Bob commented.

They had a wonderful visit and were soon on their way.  “Princess, we should consider the great distance we must travel to be in the Grand Haven Nebula of the Michigan Galaxy on the specified date.  For as you’ll remember, we have an important event, known as HarkoFest to attend.  Two of our progeny will be arriving from far and distant lands to reunite with our oldest that has made a home there with her mate and offspring.  We will enjoy consuming mass quantities of adult beverages and enjoy seared flesh from the hot coals.  I can’t wait!” Obie exclaimed.

“Yes, Obie, it’s time to head that way, but I doubt our adventure is at an end yet, as there are plenty of spaceways to travel yet.  I’m sure we will find much to see along the way.  Plus, you never know when The Dark Side will try to deter us from our travels” cautioned The Princess.

As they traveled, they observed a rather large female hoofed herbivorous creature very close to the spaceway.

They also encountered numerous areas where the spaceways required repair.

Princess Pat discussing proper road construction with the Flag Girl

Pilot Car

Often times, they would converse with the entities known as “Flag Girls” and offer them rolled and wrapped chocolate treats , which were greatly appreciated. “It seems we’ll never get to our destination!  This spaceway is endless!” remarked The Princess.Once again the two had to stop at the border and show travel documents, as they were entering the Canada Universe for the last time.  They stopped at a well-known attraction know as Liard Hot Springs where they lingered and relaxed for a while in the soothing waters.  When they returned to KC and The Tug, another Egg owner was waiting for them!  Soon a third Egg arrived!  How fun! At Watson Lake Nebula, the two stopped to add special signage to the famous Sign Post Forest to show proof of their visit to the Canadian Universe.

Our sign posted in The Signpost Forest

“I hope all those traveling these spaceways in Eggs observe our signage and report back to us” The Princess remarked.

They also stopped at a local purveyor of mass quantities and observed the high cost of an adult beverage.

“Gadzooks!” a very surprised Obie-Bob muttered.

Soon the two travelers arrived at the official beginning of this lengthy spaceway.

“I hope we don’t get into any trouble with the local authorities” thought Obie-Bob.  “It seems we have ended at the beginning!  How curious is that?”

Our travelers continued on their travels and soon found themselves at a very peculiar place

“What kind of creatures are these?” ask The Princess.

“These are fossilized remains of creatures that once ruled the earth…a page, so to speak, out of Jurassic Park.” acknowledged Obie-Bob.

Chapter 4 – The Great HarkoFest and beyond

“A most enjoyable stop, Obie-Bob, “ but now it is time to put the pedal to the metal and make our way to the Grand Haven Nebula in the Michigan Galaxy” exclaimed The Princess.

Finally the two arrived as planned and they reunited with all.  There was time for great merriment, laughter, and consumption of mass quantities of seared animal flesh and adult beverages.

All too soon, it was time for everyone to return to their own dwellings.  However, before everyone departed, a photographic image was made to commemorate the historic event.

Before The Princess and Obie-Bob returned to their earth dwelling, they planned a few more stops, one of them being the RV Hall of Fame in the Indiana Galaxy.  They were able to actually enter many of the old spacecraft on display.  What a great time they had looking!!

Ancient Holiday Rambler "Egg"

Display of "Eggs"

Only one last stop was in store for our travelers.  They headed to The Land of Cleves in the Ohio Galaxy where they met with Obie-Bob’s oldest sibling Jim, and his Bride, Marge.  They spent the weekend together at a temporary docking facility, as Jim and Marge also have a spacecraft of their own, but it doesn’t get to travel as much as they’d like.  Obie-Bob’s sister, the Lady Janice and his brother-in-law Sir Rob were also able to visit the two space travelers.  Another fine reunion was enjoyed by all.

As Sol was rising in the east, Obie-Bob told The Princess, “It is time for us to return to our own earth dwelling, as we have been gone many solar days and periods of darkness.  It will take us awhile to return, but this adventure is almost complete.

They hitched up for the last time and departed the Land of Cleves, stopping only for resting during the periods of darkness in temporary docking facilities.

Finally the two arrived at their own earth dwelling having been gone 80 solar days and traveling 10,441 light-years.

“I think we should consider another Adventure, Obie-Bob” said The Princess.  “A gathering of Eggs is being held in the Crockett Nebula of the Texas Galaxy soon.  I think we should attend.”

“Are you sure you won’t change your mind?” asked Obie-Bob.

“Why” asked The Princess, “is there something wrong with the one I have?

“I have never understood the female capacity to avoid a direct answer to any question,” thought Obie-Bob

Adventures of The Egg – Episode 23

November 1, 2011

Chapter 1 – Back to Bandera, Times Tres

“Obie-Bob, you’ve been pretty lax in the reporting of The Adventures of The Egg, are you suffering from some time-space thingy?” asked Princess Pat.

“No Princess” advised Obie-Bob Canoli, defender of The Truth and foe of The Dark Side.  “As you remember, we have decided to return to the frozen north Planet Alaska later during this solar year, and I have been busy making arrangements for our safe passage through the often perilous, but highly scenic, spaceways.  But before that adventure commences, we must once again return to the Mother of all Egg events, the Great Gathering in the Texas Nebula, Bandera quadrant.”

So once again, the two adventurers retrieved their lovely sleek Egg, Katrina Casita (or KC for short) from its storage pod and filled it to almost capacity for this inter-galactic voyage.

“We shall once again stay at the same temporary spaceport docking facility along  the way as we have done in the past, complete with limited high-definition cable supplied along with high-speed Wi-Fi communications” stated Obie-Bob.

Another check mark was inserted into The Book of Trailerlife Temporary Docking Facilities to remind the travelers that this was a most acceptable resting place.  The two adventurers were able to walk just a short distance to partake in a taste of the local cuisine before settling in the sleep chamber portion of The Egg.

“While our choice of a temporary spaceport docking facility was most eggscelant, our choice of local cuisine was not a very good decision.  I think our idea of “good food” and those that live in the area are very different” The Princess remarked.  “Maybe we’ll have better luck next time.”

Upon arrival at The Gathering, the two located a suitable docking facility and reported to the Supreme Council, advising them of their arrival.

The Princess and Obie-Bob soon located both new Egg owners and many familiar faces at The Gathering.

Princess Pat once again offered her craft talents and helped many young ladies in the art of T-Shirt decorating.

There was even a Flea Market for those that had extra “parts” or serviceable items, which other Egg owners might be in need of.

Games of skill and / or chance were enjoyed, either by participation or as a member of a cheering section!

All too soon it was time to say “adiós” and return to their home spaceport.

Once again, it required the two to seek a temporary docking facility after they went through the Houston Quadrant, but soon after their departure, The Dark Side sought out our two intrepid space adventures!

Chapter 2 – Revenge of The Dark Side!

 “Thump”

“Did you hear that? What do you think it was, Galactic Debris or a maybe a small black hole in the spaceways?” The Princess asked.

“We shall inspect the black circular adhesion discs to insure there has been no damage to them or to KC” Obie-Bob said.  After a complete walk-around of Katrina Casita, neither Princess Pat nor Obie-Bob could detect any abnormalities.  “We shall continue on, Princess.  We must have just hit a small piece of space debris.  Most likely one of those used-up satellites that we’ve been hearing so much about.  A portion of it may have wandered into our space path.”

Soon it was time to consume the noonday meal, as Sol had reached its zenith.  The Princess located in the Book of Next Exits, a temporary dock complete with resting faculties just ahead.  While at the resting dock, the two once again made a complete walk around of KC and observed no damage.  Again, confidant that it was just a bit of debris in the spaceways, Obie-Bob merged onto the main I-10 spaceway corridor.

Soon there were other spacecraft overtaking The Princess and Obie-Bob, pointing and indicating something was wrong.  Obie Bob eased off the main spaceway and as he came to a rest.  He could feel a great disturbance in The Force.  “I have a bad feeling about this” thought Obie-Bob

Once again, he walked around KC, but this time, something was amiss.

“The Dark Side has struck!  One of our black circular adhesion discs has been damaged and is now flat” exclaimed Obie-Bob.  “The Dark Side is near.”

“What shall we do?”  asked The Princess.

“We have a spare adhesion disc.  All right, I’ll give it a try. “

Quietly, The Princess said “No, try not…or do not.  There is no try.

“Very wise words, Princess.”  Obie-Bob utilized the hydraulic lifting device from their tug, and soon the replacement adhesion disc was installed and they were once again on their way.

The two located a temporary docking facility a little sooner than they had hoped.  A favorite adult beverage was served by the Princess and Obie-Bob relaxed.

After a restful night, our two adventures finally arrived at their home spaceport.

“Since we will soon be leaving for the frozen north of the Planet Alaska, I think it is prudent to obtain new circular adhesion discs for KC.  We can also carry a spare disc lashed onto the exterior of our tug, just in case.  Although we have traveled to the frozen north of Planet Alaska numerous times as part of the Mystic Yellow Shirts, we must take precautions against The Dark Side,” Obie-Bob advised.

“I believe you are correct, Obie-Bob.” The Princess advised.  “But, with all that has happened during this adventure, what Words of Wisdom do you have to offer?”

“Well Princess, not so much words of wisdom, but an observation and that is ‘I may be a living legend, but that sure don’t help when I’ve got to change a flat.’”

“Careful Obie-Bob, if you’re too open minded your brains will fall out” thought The Princess.

Stay tuned for another exciting episode of The Adventures of The Egg, with Princess Pat and Obie-Bob Canoli as they brave the frozen north of the Planet of Alaska!

Episode 22 – The Green Eggs & Ham Hatch-In

March 30, 2011

“What’s with this Green Eggs and Ham thingie I read about on the intergalactic slow speed information highway?” asked Obie-Bob Cannoli, “It almost sounds like something that was shoved way back in the refrigeration unit of Katrina Casita (or KC for short).  It’s kind of disgusting if you ask me.”

“Let me see what you’re talking about,” muttered Princess Pat.  “Why Obie-Bob, it’s a new gathering for Followers of The Egg.  And it’s really close by!  We could arrive in way less than one solar day and it wouldn’t cost many space credits.”

“Oh no,” thought Obie-Bob.  “Just as we were seeing the light at the end of the Black Hole, she wants to go off on another adventure to some unknown sector of the Universe.  Oh well, might as well spend those space credits now.  I remember when I was young…booze and women.  The rest I wasted.”

“Okay, Princess.  I’ll plot a course and make arrangements for a temporary docking facility for the duration of our adventure.”

Obie-Bob was quite pleased when he was informed that since both he and The Princess were now official “Geezers,” their temporary docking facility fees were greatly reduced.  So the two made preparations to depart for their voyage to boldly go where they had not visited before, the Camden sector of The Alabama Nebula.  KC was brought out of storage and loaded with lots of “stuff” including adult beverages.

“Princess, since this is a new gathering, maybe we should provide one of the scrumptious delicacies from our area, that dish known as Gumbo.  We could provide it for the entire group.  Sir Jerry and The Lady Wanda have agreed to provide a baked doughy substance to accompany the Gumbo, and Sir Jim & The Lady Carolyn have offered to provide the finest of plastic eating implements. What do you think?

“I think that would be good.  After all, I’m sure it will be a nice way to get to know everyone.  It appears that there will be many there who we have not yet met,” remarked The Princess.

The two completed the loading of “stuff” into KC and Obie-Bob eased into the galactic transit spaceways.  “Let’s go!” said The Princess, “You’re slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter.”

After just a short voyage, the two arrived at the designated temporary docking facility and set up KC, in the designated area.  They were please to find other Followers of The Egg nearby.  “This is a very nice unorganized event,” The Princess remarked, “There is plenty of free time to relax and enjoy the company of others.  It seems to me, that sometimes, less is more.”

“I agree, Princess, but each event we attend is different.  Sometimes, having a structured agenda is good, depending on what our leaders are trying to accomplish for the good of the entire group.”

Obie-Bob took charge in the making of The Gumbo for the group.  The weather was extremely favorable, and many seemed to enjoy the local cuisine.

Soon The Princess gathered those who wished to attend her craft classes.  Those who attended seemed to have much fun and liked their completed projects.

The traditional Pot Luck was also very well attended.  When the lack of serving tables was noticed, a very wise Egg owner suggested using the tailgates of the many Tugs utilized to haul their respective Eggs from galaxy to universe and nebula.

All those who attended were also treated to a performance of riparian musical entertainment while the campfire burned brightly.

There was even a “look-alike” contest!  Unfortunately, the consensus was that Shorty, our fearless leader, did not look like himself!

All too soon it was time for all to depart.  Many had traveled quite a few solar days to attend and had to return to their home spaceport.  The Princess and two other couples took the opportunity to visit a local dining establishment and enjoy a delicious feast.

As the two adventurers returned to their home spaceport, The Princess noticed that Obie-Bob was deep in thought.

“What’s up, Obie-Bob?  You appear a bit perplexed.”

“It’s like this Princess.  You know, we travel great distances at faster than the speed of light to attend gatherings with other Followers of The Egg.  It’s been our rule not to travel during times of darkness.  But if we had to, if we are traveling at the speed of light and turn on our headlights, does anything happen?”

The Princess didn’t reply but just thought, “I feel like I’m diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

Watch for more “Adventures of The Egg” as The Princess and Obie-Bob soon journey “Back to Bandera, Chapter III” and their “One More Time” tour back to the frozen Alaska Nebula!

Episode 21 – Hill-A-Palooza

March 23, 2011

Chapter 1 – Snow Birds

“What’s this Hill-A-Palooza thingie you want to go to, Princess?  I see it here on the Inter-Galactic slow speed information highway, but I just don’t get it.” Obie-Bob Cannoli remarked as he scratched his head.

“It’s another kind of gathering of Eggs” The Princess advised, “and it’s at a place we’ve never been to before, attended mostly by a group known as Hillbillies.”

“HA!” exclaimed Obie-Bob, “we’ve been to the Texas Nebula so many times it’s almost like we’re residents but without any benefits.”

“But it’s in a different part of the Texas Nebula where we’ve never been.  Besides, there is a local purveyor of one of your favorite beverages very close by.  And we will be able to visit with my Aunt and Uncle who are Snow Birds.  Can we go?” inquired The Princess.

“Sure,” replied Obie-Bob as he checked his space credit account and groaned just a bit.

So the two adventurers brought Katrina Casita (KC for short) out of its temporary storage pod and began loading it for the trip.

“We will first visit with your Aunt and Uncle, the Snow Birds.” advised Obie-Bob as he wondered if Snow Birds really do have feathers.  “Then we’ll head to the gathering of The Eggs at the Hill-A-Palooza assembly location.  Because of the great distances involved, it will require us to find temporary docking facilities along our way.”

Our adventurers loaded KC and began their voyage, heading toward Sol as it set on the western horizon, for they had once again found their way to the Texas Nebula where the sun always sets in the west.  They procured an adequate temporary spaceport and settled in.  As daylight appeared, the two were once again on track, utilizing their built-in Galactic Positioning Sensor (GPS) to find their way through the maze of small spaceports along the way.

They finally arrived at their destination, a small but very nice temporary docking facility in the Kingsland section of the Texas Nebula.

They very quickly located The Princess’ Aunt and Uncle and Obie-Bob noted they did not have feathers.  “Strange” he thought to himself.

 Chapter 2 – Hill-A-Palooza and The Hillbillies

After a very enjoyable reunion, the two departed for the Gathering of Eggs, which was less than a solar day away.

They quickly located a vacant temporary docking facility and since the number of Eggs greatly exceeded the number of temporary docking facilities, they shared with another Star Captain and his lovely bride.

The Princess and Obie-Bob soon were once again thrust into the group of Followers of The Egg.  Princess Pat once again organized a class to teach the many ladies and a few of the men who attended The Gathering.

As usual, there were dinners planned and as usual, there was more food available than could possibly be consumed.

Obie-Bob and The Princess also visited local dining establishments to enjoy the local cuisine, and of course, Obie-Bob was able to visit the local purveyor of one of his favorite beverages.

“I just don’t get it,” remarked The Princess.  “Why do you drink this Beer Stuff?”

“Well, Princess, it’s like this.  A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo.  And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones in the back that are killed first.  This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by regular killing of the weakest members.  In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells.  Excessive intake of Beer, as we know, kills brain cells.  But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.  In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.  That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers,” advised Obie-Bob with much authority.

There were also games of chance, a chili cook-off, and the opportunity to gather with others and enjoy the company of Followers of The Egg.

All too soon it was time to depart and return to their home spaceport.  Once again, it required the two to seek a temporary docking facility after they went through the Houston Quadrant.

“Whew!” remarked The Princess.  “That was fun! I can’t wait until next year when we can again return.”

Upon arriving at their home spaceport, Obie-Bob noted that the device used to Nuke tasty treats such as pop corn had indeed “gone nuclear.”  “More space credits” thought Obie-Bob, “when will it ever end?”

“What words of wisdom do you have after this adventure, Obie-Bob?” inquired The Princess?

“Well Princess, I think back to our dining-out experiences this last adventure and think about some of the local cuisine and delicacies I consumed.  Is it my imagination, or do buffalo wings taste like chicken?”

Episode 20 – Kicking of the Tires and other travels

March 23, 2011

Chapter 1 – Kicking of the Tires

“BRRR!” exclaimed Obie-Bob Cannoli “I was hoping Spring was just around the corner.  We need to go somewhere warm!  I saw an advertisement on the Inter-Galactic slow speed information highway about a place where Eggs of all shapes, sizes, and configurations are brought to a central viewing point and put on display for potential Star Captains to inspect.  I think we should see if there is anything new and different available.  What do you think, Princess?”

“Well, Obie-Bob, we can make it an adventure and visit with your brother who lives in the Florida Nebula, then travel to see the great oceans of the Atlantic and visit the area where the oldest continually inhabited settlement is.  I would also like to visit the magical and mystical Hogwarts School where the Wizard Harry Potter received his training.  Do you think we could accomplish all this?” asked The Princess.

 “I’m sure we can, Princess”

So our two adventurers made arrangements for temporary spaceports along the way as there are many who seek the mild climate of the Florida Galaxy during that time of the solar year.  “They sure do have a funny name, Snow Birds” remarked Obie-Bob, “but they have no feathers, imagine that!”

After a few days, Katrina Casita (KC for short) was brought out of its storage pod and prepared for the adventure.  Just before departure, the two received a message from Obie-Bob’s oldest brother, Sir Jim, who also has a much bigger type of square Egg (how funny that looks!) and asked if he and his bride, the Lady Marge, could join them in the Kicking of the Tires. Since they lived in a far away Galaxy where it was cold and frozen, they would meet The Princess and Obie-Bob at the Kicking of the Tires event.  So it worked well that the four space travelers were able to meet and perform the Kicking Tires ritual together.

They found a few new Eggs that were unique in their design, but there was nothing that could ever replace Their Egg!

After the Kicking of Tires ritual, the four visited the last brother, Sir Ray of the Trains and his lovely Lady, Miss Bonnie.  After a few days, Sir Jim and The Lady Marge departed back to the frozen Land of Cleves.  Obie-Bob and The Princess then said good-bye to Sir Ray and they headed to visit the great oceans of the Atlantic.

Chapter 2 – Saint Augustine

“It took us less than a solar day to arrive at our temporary docking port here in the Anastasia State temporary docking station.  We have plenty of time to soak up the culture and maybe suck down a few cold brews” advised Obie-Bob.

So the two headed out to take in the local culture.  They visited the Castillo de San Marcos,

  The Lighthouse Museum,

The Beach,

  And the oldest house.

 Chapter 3 – Hogwarts

Soon it was time to depart for the Mystical Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry and look for the elusive Harry Potter.  The two found a barely adequate, but inexpensive temporary docking facility a few parsecs from Hogwarts School.

As Sol arrived in the early morning, the weather forecast was dismal, but the two took extra gear to protect them from falling water molecules.

“We’re here at last!  Let’s go and visit the Castle!  It’s magic!” exclaimed The Princess.

As the two turned the corner, they were amazed at how many others were there also.  “Why are all these people here?  Why aren’t they at work?” muttered The Princess.  “Don’t worry Princess, we have all day to see the sights” advised Obie-Bob “and we can also return tomorrow.”

The two adventurers saw all the sights and were able to enjoy some of the local  delicacies, including the scrumptious Butter Beer which The Princes grew very fond of!

All too soon it was time to return to their home Spaceport.  It was a long trip to make in just one solar day.  As they arrived back at their home Spaceport, it was very obvious that Obie-Bob had something on his mind.

“What are you thinking about, Obie-Bob?” asked The Princess warily.

“Well Princess, disbelief in magic forces us poor souls into believing in government and business.  I think I’ll just stick with magic!

“Obie-Bob, I just read about another gathering of The Eggs at a place call Hill-A-Palooza!  I would like to go.  We could also visit with my Aunt and Uncle who will be in the area being Snow Birds.”

“I wonder if they’ll have feathers?” thought Obie Bob.

So gentle readers, stayed tuned for more exciting Adventures of The Egg!

Adventures of The Egg – Episode 19

Matagorda Madness, Part Duex

“Brrrr” said Obie-Bob. “I just know it’s going to be cold again!  Why am I subjecting myself to this craziness?  Who in their right mind goes to the beach in December?”

“Obie-Bob” said The Princess, “don’t be such a wussy!  Who knows, maybe it will be warmer than last year.”

“We have again been invited to prepare our legendary Jambalaya for other followers of Egg.  Are you up for that?” inquired Obie-Bob.

“But of course!” The Princess chimed in, “Plus I will plan a new and easy craft to teach.”

So the two retrieved Katrina Casita from the temporary storage facility loaded it and the Tug, Tony the Toyota, until there was no more room.

The forecast is for balmy temperatures.  I may not freeze, thought Obie-Bob.

The two travelers set out, staying the first night in a great temporary docking facility which offered Cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a breakfast!  They arrive at Matagorda, located their assigned site and set up camp.

Since there were no activities, they headed to one of the local dining establishments and enjoyed dinner with other followers of the Egg, Charlie & Joyce.

The following morning, the two presented themselves before the Supreme Council.  They enjoyed the numerous activities offered by the loyal staff of the facility, prepared the Jambalaya as planned, met new Followers of The Egg and reacquainted themselves with old friends.

There was an abundance of activities for the two to enjoy, including meeting a real cowboy & cowgirl, learning about the local cattle drive to an island where the herd would graze during the winter, campfires on the beach, a movie about a group of travelers canoeing on the Mighty Colorado River, and sampling delectable cuisine from other Followers of The Egg, and instructional session presented by Sir Larry, the Plumber.

All too soon it was time to leave…..The Madness of Matagorda remains, but this time, with warm and balmy breezes.

“Okay, Obie-Bob” how about some more of your wisdom” quipped The Princess.

“Well Princess, since we’re at Matagorda Madness, the only thing I can say is ‘I don’t suffer from insanity….I enjoy every minute of it.’”

Alright boys and girls, watch for more adventures of The Princess, Obie-Bob Canoli, and The Egg!
